Jack's New Job!

Anyone who's checked Jack's site recently may have seen this already, but he got a new job today! It's with the Louisiana State Employee Retirement System, or LASERS (hehehe), so he'll be working with people about their retirement benefits. He had a great interview on Friday that he had been really excited about, and there was one woman from the office who had wanted to be there but mixed up the time. Anyway, she called him this morning and asked if he could come in so she could meet him, and she told him pretty soon after he got there that they wanted to hire him! SKO!

The pay increase will be small, but it'll be enough that we can now pay our bills without feeling that we're a paycheck away from homelessness! He's even going to have his own office, which is cool. I have an office, but it's barely long enough for me to lie down in, so the thought of him having a REAL one is neat. He's scheduled at Waldenbooks through 12 June, and he's hoping this new place will let him start on 14 June (a Monday). Apparently, their paperwork for a new hire often takes three weeks since they're a state agency, so the woman he met today, who I think will be his direct supervisor, is going to try to "rush" it through. Anyway, he'll definitely know tomorrow morning what day he can start. He's on his way to work right now, where he will break the news to Tracey, and he's so excited that he'll be able to leave! She and he have frequent clashes, because she likes things to be her way or not at all, and he's less apt to blindly agree with her than most people. Anyway, she values most of the work he does, but I think she'll be relieved to have such a rabble-rouser out from under her feet. =) Plus she's known for some time that he's actively looking for another job, which is why he hasn't been promoted, so this shouldn't come as much of a shock.

Fun, right? Email him with congratulations if you want. He's already full of adrenaline and really excited, especially since this has been SO long in coming!

Hey, the other best part is that he won't have to work the day after Thanksgiving, and he'll probably get more time off at Christmas than just the 25th! Holidays, here we come!

Yes! Even if by some random occurrence, Jack does have to be at work the day after Thanksgiving (ugh), I had already planned to stay through the weekend and get a one-way flight back home. We don't need him to slow us down while we're shopping, but it'll sure be nice to have him there anyway. =)
