Sleepy Boy

I feel a great sense of accomplishment now that I know how to get Kent down for a nap when he's tired (like I have twice today — I rule!). If I've swaddled him and walked him around for longer than 5 minutes without seeing the Droopy Eyes, I usually try something else for a while and then go back to it. I'm much less obsessed with getting him asleep than I used to be, too, preferring instead the wait-and-see approach and considering us both lucky if he happens to take more than one nap in a day. I think my relaxed attitude helps him; it certainly helps me not get so frustrated. Things were quite unpleasant for a few weeks there, when I was freaking out that he wasn't getting enough sleep and was at my wits' end to do something about it. It's better now. Still unpredictable, but better.

Contrary to his napping behaviors, he's done fairly well at nighttime sleeping since about the second week of his life, waking up twice or sometimes thrice to eat in the night but (usually) going right back to sleep after some swaying from Dad. He's had two nights, including last night, when he's slept for 6 and a half hours before waking, which totally rocks. Some experts consider it "sleeping through the night" if it's a stretch of 5 hours or more, which isn't exactly ideal for people like me who are used to sleeping a lot, but we get 4 or 5 hours in a row most nights, so we're pretty happy. There are still times when Kent takes a while to fall back asleep (30 minutes or more), and the next day, Jack is a bleary-eyed zombie from being awake for so long. But we're dealing with it. Our sweet little boy has more gurgles, blurps, and smiles than ever before, giving us the strength to persevere.

On an unrelated note, his record for Most Sneezes in a Row is 10. Beat that.

Excellent, you do rule, E! I'm glad he's sleeping through the night relatively well (though I'm with you - I need more than 5 hrs sleep too). Post more photos of those cute little gurgles, blurps & smiles when you can, for all of the Kent/E/J fans out here! :-)

Woohoo! Go Mom and Dad!
